This full-time Sign Language Interpreter position offers an opportunity to support a 5th-grade student with cochlear implants in an elementary school setting in Chicago, IL. The role demands an experienced interpreter skilled in American Sign Language (ASL) to provide one-on-one communication assistance throughout the school day. This contract role lasts for the current school year (CSY), working 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clear and accurate ASL interpretation tailored to the needs of a 5th-grade student using cochlear implants
- Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards and ethical guidelines
- Collaborate closely with educators and support staff to ensure accessible learning environments
Qualifications
- Active Illinois EIS license for interpreting or an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher
- Proven experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings
- Strong proficiency in American Sign Language and familiarity with interpreting for students with hearing impairments
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with children
